Scammed by Advertising via a 2 year old!

I started making the cake for Taurin's Birthday today and Taurin wanted to help. I was a little reluctant because I just wanted to get it done.  Then she saw the above advertisement and said,
"Mommy that little girl is helping her mommy make a cake. I want to help my mommy make a cake."
How could I say no to that?
How could the mom on the cake box be cooler than me?
Needless to say she got to help me make the cake.

Warning: Say NO to off brand Baby Powder

I was in need of some baby powder, and grabbed a generic brand while in the grocery store. When I got home and opened it I realized the lid opened and closed very easily and thought to myself, "The kids could probably open this."
Well, the powder was misplaced for a few days and recently found.  The kids are in the room and everyone is laughing and giggling... Taurin comes down and says that Marinn has the baby powder. She looked like this:
So, naturally I believed her... and went upstairs to find this....

 Notice who is the cleanest?

There was about a cup of baby powder in Shaw's crib and the room smelt baby fresh.  After vacuuming them off... they got a bath.
Lesson learned: DO NOT buy the CHEAP POWDER.

What Not to Wear Nominee's

Taurin loves skirts and fancy shoes... this is what she dressed herself in today. It's 40 degrees out... so this just makes me giggle. Not to mention I think that top is on upside down.

Obviously Shaw cannot dress himself so this really isn't his fault but I had to post it. This isn't the first time the girls have put him in a dress but every time it happens it's just sooo wrong. Not to mention it's accentuated by his speed racer pajama pants.

Taurin's new BLING

Today we went to the mall... to get Taurin's ears pierced.
This is the before picture, Taurin happily eating her sucker.

This is during... She didn't cry just got this concerned look on her face.
But not a tear!

 ...and Wha LA! Earrings!

She had a great time and picked out the blue flower earrings.
She's going to be 3 on Tuesday and it's a tradition to get ears pierced when the girls are 3 (if they want to). It's fun to think this is one of the family traditions that we've created... so many more to come.

In the corner...

Today Shaw was in trouble and I put him in the corner.  For some reason his head ended up in the corner but his feet were about a foot away.  He was standing so still that I decided that would work. About 2 minutes later as I'm about to let him out of the corner I realize his head has slid down a bit and he is in a slight squat position. His little legs were shaking from muscle failure, but you could tell he was trying so hard to stay still. I giggled as I asked him to come to me, and he looked so relieved that he hadn't moved and gotten in more trouble.  What a good boy I have.
(This picture was taken the other morning... He saw the camera and said something like "Cheeees!" and gave me the little head tilt... What a pro!)

What's Your Job?

We are driving in the car and we (Marinn and I) are talking about Andrew going to school.  I explain that when he is done with school he will be a cop.  And she replies with worry in her voice,
"But mom if dad is a cop then who will be our dad???"
Me, "Marinn, he'll still be your dad. Being a cop will just be his job..."
Then I went on to explain different people with different jobs, aunts, uncles etc. So she could understand that people have jobs and are still other things.
She starts asking about other people that I didn't mention and then asks,
"Mom, what is your job?"
Me, "My job is to be a mommy."
Marinn, "Yeah and to do the dishes. And the laundry."
I laugh and tell her yes.
Then she says, "And my job is to listen to you. And Taurin's job is to listen to daddy. And Shaw's job is to take care of my pony."
Well, I helped her straighten out all of that while I giggled to myself.
I love her perspective and understanding on things : ) It makes me feel good to see that she notices that I do the dishes and laundry though.

Black Daddy

Occasionally Andrew will get a part of a song stuck in his head and he will just sing it over and over... the other day he had,
"Where are my black girls at? Where they at? Where they at? Where they at?"
We'd been in the car and he'd been singing it a lot.  Then out of the back seat we hear Marinn says,
"Where's my black daddy at?"

We all just cracked up...
Well, you'd think the story would end here but it doesn't.  That night I was telling my mom about the silly story and Marinn overhears me.  Then from under the table we hear,
"Where's my black daddy at?
Where's my black mommy at?"
I tell her that's enough and she says, "I've got one more."
"Where's my black Shaw at?"
I say, "Okay that's enough."
She says, "Where's my black car seat at?"

So, at this point it seems like the story is over but then we are telling the story again this morning and someone asks Marinn where her black daddy is.
She points to Andrew.
A little bit later someone asks Taurin where her black daddy is.
She says, "I don't have a black daddy.... I have a..... white daddy."
